Alexandra Road Estate, aka Rowley Way, the concrete ziggurat that broke its architect before the world came round, hand-painted in watercolour by Jen Russell-Smith.

Neave Brown's sweeping terraces of white concrete, stepping down along a curving pedestrian street beside the railway, ran four times over budget and triggered a public inquiry that ended his career in Britain. Fifteen years later it became the first post-war council estate ever Grade II* listed, and is now regarded as one of Europe's greatest works of social housing.
