Senate House, the tower of learning that became fiction's home of tyranny, hand-painted in watercolour by Jen Russell-Smith.

Charles Holden's austere Portland stone monolith was London's tallest secular building when it opened in 1937, built to house the University of London. During the war it became the Ministry of Information, where George Orwell's wife worked in censorship, and its looming form inspired the Ministry of Truth in his novel 1984.
