The Barbican, the concrete labyrinth Londoners voted the city's ugliest building, hand-painted in watercolour by Jen Russell-Smith.

Built on a site flattened by the Blitz and opened in 1982, this Brutalist maze of towers, walkways and lakes was once topped polls as London's ugliest building. Today it's Grade II listed, home to Europe's largest arts centre, and one of the most coveted addresses in the city.

Part of the Urban Stories print series celebrating the Bizarre Buildings of London series on our channel.
